    Introduction

    The Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, located at Mantralaya, Mumbai, is an administrative department of the Government of Maharashtra. The current in-charge minister is Hon. Shri Gulabrao Raghunath Patil, and Hon. state minister smt. Meghna Deepak sakore-bordikar and the Principal Secretary of the department is Shri Sanjay Khandare (IAS).

    Formation

    The administrative department of Water Supply and Sanitation was established dated November 9, 1995.

    Responsibilities

    Providing clean drinking water in rural areas of the state, making policy decisions related to it, and implementing them. Additionally, handling all tasks related to individual and public sanitation in rural areas.

    Scope of Work

    1. Establishment of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department (independent), along with the Groundwater Survey and Development Mechanism, Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, Jal Swarajya Phase-2, and the Water and Sanitation Support Organization under its jurisdiction.
    2. Formulating policies for drinking water supply and sanitation programs and implementing them.
    3. Executing water supply and sanitation programs.
    4. Coordinating and supervising the Jal Jeevan Mission program and swachha bharat mission
