    Introduction

    The Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, Mantralaya, Mumbai, is an administrative department of the Government of Maharashtra. The Minister is Hon. Shri. Gulabrao Raghunath Patil and Hon. State minister is Smt. Meghna Deepak Sakore-Bordikar. The Principal Secretary of the department is Shri. Sanjay Khandare (IAS).

    Formation

    The administrative department of Water Supply and Sanitation was established on dated November 9, 1995.

    Responsibilities

    Providing clean drinking water in rural areas of the state, making policy decisions related to it and implementing them. Additionally, handling all works related to private and public sanitation in rural areas.

    Scope of Work

    1. Establishment of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department (independent), along with the Groundwater Survey and Development Agency, Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, Jal Swarajya Phase-2 and the Water and Sanitation Support Department under its jurisdiction.
    2. Formulating policies for drinking water supply and sanitation programs and implementing them.
    3. Implenting water supply and sanitation programs.
    4. Coordinating and supervising the Jal Jeevan Mission program and swachha bharat mission.
