Sant Gadgebaba Gram Swachhta Abhiyan

Sant Gadgebaba Gram Swachhta Abhiyan is being implemented since the year 2000-01 to improve the health status of rural people. A comprehensive public awareness program has been executed under this campaign. Through this, a new approach was introduced to development schemes by involving the government in people-led initiatives. To further encourage participation, the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Swachh Gram Competition was started under this campaign.

Public and personal hygiene assets and facilities have been developed through Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) Phase-II and other related activities and programs. To ensure proper use, upkeep, and maintenance of these sanitation assets, manpower and financial resources are provided. The efforts of villagers and Gram Panchayats who undertake the construction, repair, and maintenance of sanitation facilities are recognized by awarding them with cash prizes and medals through this campaign’s competitions.

Prescribed aspects related to cleanliness have been included in various competitions under this campaign. Accordingly, necessary modifications were made to the operational procedures, evaluation criteria, and inspection methods. Consolidated guidelines for the implementation of Sant Gadgebaba Gram Swachhta Abhiyan for the year 2022-23 and beyond were issued as per the Government Resolution dated 07 October 2022.

Under the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Swachh Gram Competition in the Sant Gadgebaba Gram Swachhta Abhiyan, deserving Gram Panchayats are awarded at the Zilla Parishad Group Level, Zilla Parishad Level, Division Level, and State Level. Special awards are also presented to Gram Panchayats qualifying in categories such as waste-water management, water quality and management, and toilet management at the district, divisional, and state levels.
